TRUE GHOST HUNTING
Hmm. This one, I'm not so sure of. If one cuts through the television voice-over, the spooky music and fuzzy camera shots, what we really have is a bunch of dudes setting up cameras and other recording equipment at various locations, then analysing the results. Often a lot of the scenes are posed (fair enough, people, it's television!) but the locations and people are real. So it's not as if they're staging everything, and, what's more, a lot of the show is highly editted. Television, I get it, fine. The interesting points are the analysis and lack of consistency with their results: The guys started off being very skeptical about the analysis, and always tried to debunk stuff first. In later episodes, they started looking for paranormal explanations almost from the get go, and left debunking a close second. Demand from television? Possibly. Secondly, the inconsistency with their results leans to a more plausible show: If the show were meant to spook people each time, then nothing would stop them from staging a bit of their own stuff to keep the ratings up. But in many episodes, a grand total of nothing happens except possibly a clunk or a whisper explainable through natural means. Lastly, there have been some rather good captures which, if one assumes that they aren't staged, beg for plausible answers. That's not to say that there is no natural explanation, more that the explanation is not readily ascertainable. So, television ratings grabber? Probably not. Overdramatised? Yes. Fake? Dunno. Entertaining? Absolutely! SOURCE:Jeztyr - whispering in the ears of kings
